PANCAKE DAY - 5th March 2019
Pancake Day is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday. In other countries, it is called Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras, translated from French, is 'Fat Tuesday', which refers to the last night of eating richer and fatty foods such as chocolate, butter, and sugar before fasting for Lent.
Pancake Day se celebra el día anterior al miercoles de Ceniza. En otros países, se llama Mardi Gras.Mardi Gras, traducido del francés, es 'martes gordo',que se refiere a la última noche de comer alimentos más ricos y grasos como el chocolate, la mantequilla y el azúcar antes de ayunar para la Cuaresma.
In the past, it was traditional for many societies to eat pancakes and other food made with butter, eggs, and flour, which would have been given up during the Lenten season. This has been a tradition in the UK since the 16th century.
En el pasado, era tradicional por muchas sociedades para comer panqueques y otros alimentos hechos con mantequilla, huevos y harina,que habría sido entregado durante la temporada de Cuaresma.Esta ha sido una tradición en el Reino Unido desde el siglo XVI.

British people eat 2 pancakes per person on Pancake Day - however, most people eat 3 or 4 pancakes, which means at least 117 million pancakes will be eaten in one day.
On an average day, British people eat 30 million eggs, however, on Pancake Day this number increases to 52 million eggs!
Although chocolate spread and syrup are popular pancake toppings, the most popular topping is lemon juice and sugar.
Segun las estadisticas, los británicos comen 2 panqueques por persona en el Día de Panqueques - sin embargo, la mayoría de las personas comen 3 o 4 tortitas, lo que significa que al menos 117 millones de tortitas se comerán en un día.
En un día normal,Los británicos comen 30 millones de huevos, sin embargo, en el Día del Panqueque este número aumenta a 52 millones huevos!

Now it is very popular to turn pancakes into art. There are many Youtube videos and Instagram accounts dedicated to 'Pancake Art', ranging from Pokemon, Disney, Minecraft and much more.

Pancake Races
In the UK, on Pancake Day, 'Pancake Races' are held in villages and towns, which has been a popular activity since 1445. It started when a woman from Buckinghamshire was so busy making pancakes that she forgot about the time until she heard church bells ringing for the mass. She ran out of the house, still carrying her frying pan (and pancakes), flipping them in the air to prevent it from burning.
Today, Pancake Races consist of participants running through the streets, throwing pancakes in the air and catching them.
En el Reino Unido, en el Día del Panqueque, las "Carreras de Panqueques" se llevan a cabo en pueblos y ciudades, que ha sido una actividad popular desde 1445. Comenzó cuando una mujer de Buckinghamshire estaba tan ocupada haciendo tortitas que se olvidó de la hora hasta que escuchó las campanas de la iglesia sonando para la misa. Salió corriendo de su casa, sigue cargando su sartén (y panqueques), lanzándolos al aire para evitar que se queme. Hoy en día, las carreras de panqueques consisten en participantes corriendo por las calles,tirando panqueques al aire y atrapándolos.
